Supporting our learners

At NIS, we believe that well-being is fundamental to learning. Students learn best when they feel safe, valued, connected, and supported. When they experience a sense of belonging and develop healthy relationships, they are more likely to engage deeply in learning, take appropriate risks, persevere through challenges, and grow in confidence.

Our approach to well-being extends beyond any single program or department. It is woven throughout school life, shaping how we teach, support, guide, and care for students from Preschool through Grade 12.

By intentionally supporting students' social, emotional, mental, and physical well-being, we help them develop not only as learners but as capable, compassionate, and resilient young people

Welcome from our Student Service Coordinator

What does it mean for students to truly belong?

Hear from Student Services Coordinator Jonathan Climas as he shares how strong relationships, emotional safety, and a culture of belonging help students feel known, supported, and confident in their learning.

Discover how creating environments where students can take risks, make mistakes, and learn from one another helps every child grow and thrive.

Our Commitment to Student Well-being

We understand well-being as a dynamic combination of emotional, social, mental, physical, and environmental factors that influence a student's ability to learn and thrive.

At NIS, well-being is viewed through the lens of relationships. Students are supported by a network of caring adults, peers, families, and school systems that work together to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

This commitment is guided by international best practice, including the International Baccalaureate and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and is reflected in our policies, programs, and everyday interactions.

How NIS Supports Well-being

Learning Support

Every student learns differently. We provide support, accommodations, and interventions that help students access learning and achieve success. This aligns closely with NIS's philosophy that all students are a shared responsibility and should receive what they need to be successful.

Child Safeguarding

Student safety is a shared responsibility. We are committed to protecting the physical and emotional well-being of every child.

Diversity & Inclusion

Every student deserves to feel respected, valued, and included. We foster a community where differences are celebrated, and every learner has a sense of belonging.

Restorative Approach

When challenges arise, we focus on repairing relationships, restoring trust, and helping students learn from their experiences.

Pastoral Curriculum

Students develop the life skills, self-awareness, and personal competencies needed to navigate school and life with confidence.

A Team Approach to Student Support

Supporting student well-being is a shared responsibility. Teachers, counselors, learning support specialists, health professionals, school leaders, and families each play an important role in helping students grow and succeed.

By working together and responding to students' needs with care, empathy, and expertise, we create an environment where every learner has the opportunity to flourish academically, socially, emotionally, mentally, and physically.
