Summer Program

A Summer of Curiosity, Discovery, and Friendship

At Nagoya International School, summer is more than a break from the school year. It's an opportunity for children to explore new ideas, discover new interests, and build friendships with peers from around the world.

Each year, the NIS Summer Program brings together children aged 5–14 for two weeks of engaging, hands-on learning led by experienced NIS teachers. Through inquiry, creativity, collaboration, and play, students develop confidence, curiosity, and lasting memories in a welcoming international environment.

Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning for another summer, they'll experience the same warm community and purposeful learning that define an NIS education.

Each day balances learning, movement, creativity, and social connection. Students enjoy:

  • Morning warm-up activities
  • Three engaging learning sessions
  • Outdoor play and social time
  • Lunch and breaks with friends
  • End-of-day community games and activities

Every activity is designed to encourage curiosity while ensuring children have fun throughout the day.

Primary Program
(Kindergarten–Grade 4)

Our younger learners enjoy an imaginative, play-based program where stories, creativity, outdoor exploration, art, science, and discovery come together through hands-on activities designed especially for primary-aged children.

Four young students in the foreground are actively engaged in a hands-on project at a table, while in the background, other students and adults are visible in a classroom setting.

Middle School Program
(Grades 5–8)

Older students participate in an engaging STEAM program that challenges them to think critically, design creatively, and solve real-world problems through collaborative projects and experiments.

Why Families Choose the NIS Summer Program

Rather than simply keeping children busy during the summer, our program is designed to inspire learning through meaningful experiences. Children have the opportunity to:

  • Explore new ideas through hands-on, inquiry-based learning
  • Build confidence by trying new challenges
  • Develop creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Make friends with children from a variety of cultures and backgrounds
  • Learn in a safe, supportive, and engaging international environment

Every year features a different theme, ensuring new experiences for returning students while staying true to the NIS approach to learning.

An International Summer Experience

One of the most rewarding aspects of the NIS Summer Program is the opportunity to learn alongside children from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.

English is the language of instruction throughout the program, creating an immersive learning environment while celebrating the multilingual experiences each child brings to our community.

Eligibility

The NIS Summer Program is open to students aged 5–14 (entering Kindergarten through Grade 8).

To ensure students can fully participate in the program, applicants should ideally be enrolled in an international or English-language curriculum and not currently attending the Japanese national school system.

If you are unsure whether your child is eligible, our Admissions Team is happy to help.
