Co-Curricular Activities

At NIS, learning goes beyond the classroom. Our Co-Curricular Activities Program offers a wide range of opportunities for students to explore interests, develop leadership skills, and build lifelong friendships.

Elementary Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)

After-school activities are organized every quarter for Elementary students. Information is sent to parents about how to register. A variety of both outdoor and indoor activities are offered each session.

Secondary Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)

There are a range of activities available for secondary students, and all students are strongly encouraged to participate and play an active role in leadership opportunities as well. The established clubs that are fixed include:

  • Middle and High School Student Councils
  • Home Language Club
  • Global Issues Network
  • Yearbook Club
  • Model United Nations (MUN)
  • NIS Homebuilders
  • NIS Plan

Students are encouraged to start their own groups based on their interests and must recruit members to participate. It is common for students to bring new clubs to life on campus, just as some clubs will wane. Thus, the student-led club offerings will change over time.

Dolphin Sports (Secondary)

Our NIS Dolphins are passionate about sports! With dedicated coaches, enthusiastic athletes and excellent facilities, our sports program has become a source of pride, spirit, and success. Both middle school and high school students can participate in age-appropriate athletics, with middle school focusing on skills development, positive attitude, and team spirit, and the high school clubs promoting healthy competition and goal-setting with tryouts.

Our sports program run in quarters (not year-long) and includes:

  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Baseball/Softball
  • Badminton
  • Cross Country

Athletic Associations

NIS is an active member of both the Western Japan Athletic Association (WJAA) and the East Asian International Schools Activities Conference (EAISAC). Through these affiliations, our students compete against teams from other international schools across Japan and beyond!

Dolphin Arts

There are many opportunities for students to showcase their visual and performing arts talents in various performances and events throughout the academic year. Students across the school are encouraged to audition and participate in the annual plays and musicals also performed during the year.
