Tuition, Fees & Registration

• ELC (Preschool & Kindergarten)    ¥1,960,000

• Tuition and fees are set annually in March, approved by the Board of Directors and are published on the website.
• Set on an annual basis, tuition is charged annually for students starting at the beginning of the school year.
• Students registering after the school year begins are charged tuition quarterly regardless of the start date within the quarter.
• Refunds are not prorated and are granted by semester only.

• Campus Development Fee  (All students)   ¥250,000

• The Campus Development Fee is an annual fee to support the costs of maintaining and developing the campus buildings, grounds, and equipment. This fee is not prorated and charged in full regardless of the date of enrollment. 

 

• Application Fee  (All applicants)   ¥50,000
• Registration Fee  (Students entering Kindergarten-Grade 12)   ¥850,000

• The Application Fee is a one-time fee charged to all applying students that is not refundable.
• The Registration Fee is a one-time fee that is charged upon acceptance to confirm registration. This fee applies to students registering for grades ELC Kindergarten through Gr. 12 and payment is due within two weeks of billing. This fee is non-refundable after the date of registration has passed and failure to make this payment rescinds the admissions offer.
• All fees are charged in full, regardless of the enrollment start date or intended length of stay.

 

• School Bus Fee (billed from the NIS Bus Association)
  • Kozoji Shuttle  ¥195,000
  • Buses #1-6  (various Nagoya neighborhoods)  ¥395,000
  • Both are annual fees charged to students who register for the bus service. Registered users have first priority over reserved seats. Registered users of the non-shuttle buses can use the shuttle buses at no additional charge. The NIS Bus Association invoices through NIS and follows the same policies for billing and refunds.

• Intensive 1:1 Support Fee  ¥2,500,000
  • An annual fee charged to students who receive 1:1 support from an additional adult to enable them to access the curriculum as required by the school or requested by the family (with the approval of the school).  The amount payable may be pro-rated.

• Summer Program (optional)  (per session fee)  ¥40,000
  • A fee charged to students who register for the NIS Summer Program (charged per weekly session).

Below are estimates of additional optional fees or expenses that may be incurred in a typical school year for some students:

• Secondary Overseas Trips (NIS Habitat, Model UN Trips, etc.):  ¥100,000-¥200,000 (grades 9-12, estimate for airfare & accommodations)
• Extra OPTIONAL Online IBDP Courses:  ¥50,000-¥60,000 per IB course (grades 11-12)
• Lunch Service:  NIS does not manage the cafeteria - Cezars Kitchen is an outsourced vendor providing exceptional food service for all grades. Prices vary - please go to Cezars Kitchen's website for more information. 

Registration Windows

• Gr. 2-12 students:  Registration, regardless of the intended date of enrollment within the quarter, opens on the first school day of the previous quarter (e.g. the registration window for a proposed enrollment date of  January 31 (in Quarter 3) opens on the first day of Quarter 2)
• ELC (Preschool & Kindergarten) and Gr. 1 Students:  Registration to enroll from the beginning of the school year for any of the ELC classes and Gr. 1 opens on the first school day of Quarter 2 from the previous school year (i.e. roughly 10 months prior to the school year opening). Mid-year registration (after Quarter 1) for ELC & Gr. 1 classes follow the same procedures as the rest of the grades – with the registration window opening on the first school day of the full previous  quarter prior to the desired enrollment start.

Advance Purchase

Companies or families wishing to register an applying student earlier than the registration window can do so provided that they pay any additional tuition for school days in advance of the regular registration window.  This rate will be calculated from the date of confirming intention to hold the place. The student must have completed the application process, pending the interview or orientation. The costs of an advanced purchase placement are fully non-transferable and non-refundable. 

Pre-Purchase

Companies wishing to pre-purchase available seats prior to knowing the identities of actual students who  will take those seats may do so through a ‘pre-purchase’ agreement. The pre-purchase will include all tuition/fees calculated from the date of invoice until the end of the academic year and is fully non-refundable and non-transferable. This will support companies who need to secure places in grades or classes prior to knowing which students will fill those places.

Current Students

Currently enrolled students matriculating to the subsequent school year are invoiced tuition and fees in April. A non-refundable deposit of ¥100,000 shall be payable by April 30 to guarantee a seat. The remaining fees and tuition are payable by June 30.  If payment is not made by the date specified, the student’s place may be released for the wait-pool without further notice.  

 

New Students (Mid-Year Enrollment)

After registration is confirmed, an invoice is issued for all applicable tuition and fees which are payable within two weeks or before enrollment, whichever is earlier. Students cannot enroll until the invoiced tuition and fees have been paid, and failure to pay within the terms of the invoice will result in the registration being voided and the enrollment space released.

Students who register after the school year begins are charged tuition quarterly regardless of the start date within the quarter.

All fees (Application, Registration, and the Campus Development Fee) are charged in full, regardless of the date of enrollment start or intended length of stay. 

 

New Students (Subsequent School Year Enrollment)

Gr. 2-12 Students (registered after Quarter 4 start):  For students in grades 2-12 whose registration to start at the beginning of the subsequent school year has been confirmed after the start of Quarter 4, the tuition and Campus Development Fee is due within 14 days of invoicing.

ELC-Gr. 1 Students (registered prior to Quarter 4 start):  For students in ELC and grade 1 whose registration to start at the beginning of the subsequent school year has been confirmed prior to Quarter 4, the tuition and Campus Development Fee is due by June 30 to retain the registered seat.

ELC-Gr. 1 Students (registered after to Quarter 4 start):  For students in ELC and grade 1 whose registration to start at the beginning of the subsequent school year has been confirmed after Quarter 4 starts, the tuition and Campus Development Fee is due within 14 days of invoicing. For all students registered for the subsequent academic school year after June 30, payment for the tuition and Campus Development Fee (or the first payment for families using the direct debit installment option described below) are payable within 14 days or before enrollment, whichever is earlier.

 

The Business Office issues invoices and manages billing and collection of tuition and fees. Payments must be in Japanese Yen and via either bank wire transfer or Direct Debit.  

Only the Application Fee can be paid online via credit card through the NIS Admissions Portal (applicants must have applied online).

Installment Option (Direct Debit)

Parents can apply to pay tuition and the Campus Development Fee in installments by direct debit only.  In total, there will be 10 installment payments made from June to March on the 27th of each month. Parents must submit the required documentation to the Business Office by May 20 and pay a ¥20,000 fee (per family). Parents are responsible for their bank fees. Families applying and registering students after the May 20 deadline can apply to make payments via Direct Debit but all installments must be completed by March.

NOTE:  A choice to pay in installments does not alter the overall financial responsibility to pay the fees in full in the event of early withdrawal. It is expected that parents have read and fully understand the withdrawal procedures and policies.  

 

Financial Delinquency

• Newly registered students will not be allowed to enroll in class until all tuition and fees have been paid.
• In the event of financial delinquency, school policy prohibits the release of grades, transcripts, letters of reference or other school records. Non-essential trips, sports, ASAs and activities may also be suspended.
• Students whose tuition is outstanding for more than 14 days may be asked to discontinue school attendance until payment is made.
• For late payments, a penalty may be levied against delinquent tuition accounts and will be charged at  1.5% per month of the unpaid balance.
• All financial obligations made at the beginning of the school year are binding.

Withdrawal

• All fees (Application Fee, Registration Fee, and the Campus Development Fee) and the April ¥100,000 deposit are non-refundable without exception.
• Students who indicate their intention to withdraw from NIS within 10 working days of Semester 1 are liable for ¥200,000 to cover planning and administrative costs already incurred.
• Students who indicate their intention to withdraw from NIS after the start of Semester 1 are liable for the full costs of tuition for Semester 1.
• Students who indicate their intention to withdraw from NIS later than the last school day of Semester 1 are liable for the full costs of tuition for Semester 2.
• Refunds will not be made in cases of expulsions or dropouts unless approved by the Head of School in advance.
• In the event of force majeure or extended school closure necessitated by a severe or catastrophic event or set of circumstances which are beyond the control of the school, tuition and fees are non-refundable. In all circumstances, NIS will strive for continuity of operations as much as possible.
