Why Educators Choose NIS

NIS is a school that values curiosity, innovation, and thoughtful improvement. We are committed to continually refining our practice and creating the learning experiences our students deserve. Faculty members are encouraged to contribute ideas, take initiative, and play an active role in shaping the future of the school.

Collaborative Community

Relationships matter at NIS. Teachers collaborate across divisions and departments, support one another professionally, and contribute to a culture where everyone feels valued and included.

Reflective practice, collaboration, and professional growth are central to our culture. Faculty are encouraged to challenge themselves, pursue new ideas, and continue growing in their careers.

Exceptional Students

Our students are often described by faculty as one of the most rewarding parts of working at NIS. They are thoughtful, caring, curious, enthusiastic and engaged learners.

Teaching & Leading Excellence at NIS

We believe exceptional teaching is the most powerful force in a student’s education.

That is why we have developed a clear and research-informed framework that defines what high-quality teaching looks like in our classrooms every day. Our Teaching Standards are more than an evaluation tool. They provide a shared language and a shared commitment that guide how we design learning, support students, collaborate as professionals, and continue growing in our practice. For educators joining NIS, these standards provide both clear expectations and meaningful opportunities for growth.

The framework is organized around five domains that bring our learning principles to life:

  1. Learning occurs best when all community members feel safe, valued, and respected.
  2. Effective learning is active, real-world, and inquiry-based; "OWNED" by the students.
  3. Assessment is an essential teaching strategy for improving learning.
  4. All NIS students deserve to be challenged, supported, and successful.
  5. Teaching is an honorable profession, and this should be reflected in our work.

If these principles reflect how you already teach, or how you aspire to grow as an educator, NIS may be the place for your next chapter.

We Invest in Your Professional Growth

Exceptional learning begins with exceptional educators. At NIS, professional learning is viewed as an ongoing journey. We believe educators grow best in environments where they are encouraged to reflect, collaborate, explore new ideas, and continue refining their practice.

As a learning community, we value professional curiosity and create opportunities for faculty to strengthen their expertise, develop leadership capacity, and contribute to school-wide growth initiatives.

Regional Weekend Workshops, Job-a-likes

Staff are encouraged to participate in a number of local and regional off-site training, online training, and on-site workshops or job-a-likes to support professional learning goals.
