Where are you now?

What are you studying? What is your field of study/major?
Medicine and Surgery.

Anatomy I

What was your least favorite class so far?
Bioengineering

What part of university life do you enjoy the most?
First of all I'm studying medicine in my third language: Italian. I love my university and to study for what I always dreamed about doing for the rest of my life, saving people. I love understanding how our body is perfect in all senses and how crazy and interesting some diseases we have can be. I love to understand how the machines work in the hospital environment. In my first year of medical school I had an internship in the hospital and from the second year on I have only had classes at the hospital. 

Outside of your studies, what’s the one thing that you are really enjoying or most excited about these days?
I love traveling. Actually, when I left NIS I thought I was going to return to Brazil, but when I came to Europe I loved this continent. That's why I decided to take the admission test to the medical schools in Italy, and I passed.

What’s the one thing you miss most about Japan/ Nagoya/ NIS? 
From Japan, I miss convenience stores! It's so good to know that we have somewhere to shop that is open 24h. My parents still live in Switzerland, so when I go to Switzerland I get very sad because everything closes at 6pm and nothing is open on Sundays. 
From Nagoya, I miss going to Sakae, shopping, and eating a lot!
From NIS I miss my friends. I hope one day I have the opportunity to meet with them again.

Lastly, what words of wisdom do you have for your schoolmates still at NIS?
Sometimes it can be hard, and sometimes you have this feeling of giving up but you should be resilient! The best life is for those who struggle deeply. Never give up, invest in yourself and your dreams now so as not to regret later.

解剖学です。

生体工学です。

大学生活のどんなところがいちばん楽しいですか？
当然、私が医学を学んでいるのはイタリア語、私の第3言語です。シエナ大学は素晴らしいところですし、命を救うという私の生涯の夢に向かって学べるのはとても幸せなことです。人体があらゆる意味で完璧であることや、それを蝕む異常で興味深い疾病について学ぶことに喜びを感じます。病院での医療機器の役割を学ぶのも興味深いです。医学部１年生の時には病院でのインターンを経験し、２年目から授業は全て病院で受けています。

学業以外で最近夢中になっていることや楽しみにしていることは何ですか？
旅行です。実は、NISを卒業後はブラジルに帰国するつもりだったのですが、ヨーロッパを訪れたとき、この大陸が大好きになりました。そこでイタリアの大学の医学部の入試を受験して合格したのです。

名古屋や日本で懐かしく思うのはどんなことですか？
日本のコンビニが懐かしいです。２４時間いつでも買い物できる場所があるのは安心です。両親はまだスイスに住んでいるのですが、スイスでは全て午後６時で閉まってしまうし日曜は休みなのでつまらないですね。
名古屋だと、栄で買い物や食事をしたことが懐かしいです。
NISの友人にも会いたいです。いつかまた会えたらいいなと思います。

最後に後輩たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。
辛くて諦めそうになることもあるかもしれないけれど、粘り強く努力してください。大きな困難を乗り越えた人にこそ最高の人生がもたらされるのです。後で後悔したくないなら、自分自身と自分の夢のために努力するのは今。決して諦めないでください。
