Where are you now?
I am currently in Eugene, Oregon in the United States studying at the University of Oregon.

What are you studying? What is your field of study/major?
I am studying Architecture with a minor in Anthropology. Recently started my third year of undergraduate studies.

What was your favorite class so far?
My favorite class has definitely been ANTH 349 Origins of Art. I took it last winter and really enjoyed it. It was the class that made me interested in getting a minor in Anthropology.

What was your least favorite class so far?
Least favorite class has to be the structures classes I need to take for my architecture degree. I enjoy the creative aspects of architecture, the physics of it not so much (sorry Mr. Steinkamp).

What part of university life do you enjoy the most?
I love the freedom and independence I have in dictating my own life. The infinite number of opportunities and communities I'm exposed to helps me grow in many ways.

Outside of your studies, what’s the one thing that you are most excited about these days?
I am the Vice President of the Japanese Student Association here at the university. I am most excited about the weekly meetings and the communities we support through our actions.

What’s the one thing you miss most about Japan/ Nagoya/ NIS? 
I miss the small and inclusive community of NIS. Going to a big university had me realize how special and unique the close knit community of NIS is.

Lastly, what words of wisdom do you have for your schoolmates still at NIS?
I didn't realize until I left how much NIS has prepared me for the outside world and supported me throughout this process. Take time to appreciate the opportunity you were given. because when you leave NIS that's when you truly realize how fortunate you are.

米国オレゴン州ユージーンにあるオレゴン大学の学生です。

専攻は何ですか？
専攻は建築学で、副専攻として人類学を学んでいます。学部課程の３年目に入ったところです。

今まででいちばん好きなクラスは何ですか？
断然「Origins of Art (芸術の起源）」です。今年の冬に履修したのですが、とても面白かったです。人類学を副専攻にしたのはこのクラスがきっかけです。

いちばん面白くなかったクラスは何ですか？
建築学の学位取得に必要な構造系のクラスはあまり好きではないです。建築学のクリエイティブな側面は好きなのですが、物理学的な側面はちょっと（スタインキャンプ先生ごめんなさい。）

大学生活でいちばん楽しいのはどんなことですか？
自分でコントロールして、自由で自立した生活をできることです。数えきれないほどの出会いや機会に恵まれているおかげで、いろんな意味で成長できているように感じます。

学業以外で最近楽しみにしていることや夢中になっていることは何ですか？
大学の日本人学生会の副会長をしていて、毎週のミーティングや活動を通してコミュニティに貢献できることにとても充実感を感じています。

日本や名古屋で懐かしく思うのはどんなことですか？
NISの、こじんまりとしてインクルーシブなコミュニティを懐かしく思います。大きな大学に通ってはじめて、NISがいかに特別で緊密なコミュニティであったかがわかりました。

最後に、後輩たちへのアドバイスをお願いします。
卒業してはじめて分かったのですが、NISでの学びや経験を通して、自分には知らず知らずのうちに外の世界で生きていく力が身についていました。今、目の前にある機会や環境を大切にしてください。NISを離れた時に自分がいかに恵まれていたかがわかるでしょう。
