Erick, class of 2021, is having an amazing time taking in new experiences while studying in Mexico.
Where are you living now?
Right now, I’m living in Monterrey, Mexico.
What are you studying?
I’m studying Industrial Engineering.
What was your favorite class so far?
Processes and Control of Operations. It’s been really fun learning how to standardize processes—and it even includes some Japanese words like Jidoka!
What was your least favorite class so far?
Physics :(
What part of university life do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy making new friends and getting to experience new things—like trying out different sports.
Outside of your studies, what’s one thing that you’re really enjoying or most excited about these days?
Right now, I’m an intern at Schneider Electric, and it’s been a great experience. It’s actually my second internship here in Monterrey, and I can honestly say it’s helped me grow a lot as a person.
What’s the one thing you miss most about Japan / Nagoya / NIS?
I miss my friends at NIS, being part of the soccer team, and the Home Language Club. I also really miss the food and the culture—it’s something truly special.
Lastly, what words of wisdom do you have for your schoolmates still at NIS?
Always try to learn new things and don’t hesitate—that knowledge is valuable. Don’t be afraid to make changes; sometimes what comes next is even better than you imagined. And most importantly: always try to create new memories.
何を勉強していますか？
工業工学を専攻しています。
これまでで一番好きな授業は？
「プロセスとオペレーション管理」です。プロセスの標準化について学ぶのがとても面白くて、日本語の「自働化」のような言葉も出てきます！
一番苦手だった授業は？
物理です…… :(
大学生活で一番楽しいことは？
新しい友達を作ったり、いろんな新しいことにチャレンジできるのが楽しいです。特に、今までやったことのなかったスポーツに挑戦するのが面白いですね。
最近、夢中になっていることや楽しんでいることは何ですか？
今はシュナイダーエレクトリックでインターンをしています。自分にとってとても良い経験になっていて、実はモンテレイで2回目のインターンです。この経験を通して、自分自身がすごく成長できていると感じています。
日本や名古屋、NISで一番恋しいことは？
NISの友達、サッカーチームの活動、ホームランゲージクラブがとても恋しいです。それから、日本の食べ物と文化もすごく恋しいです。本当に特別なものだと思います。
最後に、後輩たちへのメッセージをお願いします。
常に新しいことを学ぶ姿勢を持ち、ためらわずに挑戦してください。その知識はきっと役に立ちます。そして、変化を恐れないこと。思いがけない素晴らしい未来が待っているかもしれません。そして何よりも大切なのは、「新しい思い出を作り続けること」です！
