Where are you living now?
I live in Switzerland with my husband and four kids. As a family, we’ve lived in Japan, New Zealand, France, Thailand, and now in the French-speaking part of Switzerland!  

What kind of work are you doing?
I work for a Japanese ryūgaku agency (FES Swiss Ryugaku Center) supporting students who wish to study at Swiss boarding schools. Based in Switzerland, I provide local support by accompanying students to school visits and hosting them as a homestay on some long weekends or term breaks.

I also promote Swiss summer camps, called Village Camps, based in Leysin, where I currently live in the Swiss Alps, to students and families, helping them explore opportunities for language learning, cultural experiences, and personal growth.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love Switzerland for its nature, outdoor sports, safe environment, rich boarding school tradition, and excellent facilities, and seeing students thrive and grow freely in this environment is truly, truly rewarding.

What kind of challenges does it hold for you?
One of the challenges here is learning French! Switzerland has four national languages, and English is not one of them. While many Swiss people speak English, it leaves little opportunity for me to practice and improve my French. I can easily live without speaking French, but it remains a significant challenge for me... still!

Did NIS help you prepare for your current position in any way?
Surely! The best skills I developed at NIS were people skills and communication skills in an international environment.

What’s the one thing that you are really enjoying or most excited about these days?
Snowboarding… well, more like 'sLowboarding,' but I love it! 5 minutes walk to the ski resort from the house and I get to snowboard while kids are in school.

What’s the one thing you miss most about Nagoya/NIS?
FOOD of Japan and Nagoya... !!! I also really miss my friends and all the teachers...

Lastly, what words of wisdom do you have for today’s Dolphins?
Go all in today! If you can do it now, do it—who knows what awaits. Cherish the moments, embrace the chance, and go for it!

 

現在はどこに住んでいますか？
夫と4人の子どもと一緒にスイスに住んでいます。これまで家族で、日本、ニュージーランド、フランス、タイに暮らし、現在はフランス語圏のスイスに住んでいます。

どのようなお仕事をされていますか？
スイス留学を希望する学生をサポートする、日本の留学エージェンシー（FES Swiss Ryugaku Center）で働いています。スイスを拠点に、学校見学に同行したり、長期休暇や週末には学生をホームステイとして受け入れるなど、現地でのサポートを行っています。

また、現在住んでいるスイス・アルプスのレイザンを拠点とする「Village Camps」というスイスのサマーキャンプの紹介も行い、語学学習や異文化体験、個人の成長につながる機会を、日本の学生やご家庭にご案内しています。

お仕事の中で、いちばん好きなところは？
スイスは自然が豊かで、アウトドアスポーツが盛ん、安全で、ボーディングスクールの長い伝統と素晴らしい施設があります。そのような環境の中で、学生たちがのびのびと成長していく姿を見ることが、自分のやりがいへと繋がります。

どのようなチャレンジがありましたか？
フランス語の習得です。スイスには4つの公用語がありますが、英語は含まれていません。英語を話せる人も多く、生活自体はフランス語が話せなくても成り立ってしまうため、練習する機会が少ないのが悩みです。今でも大きなチャレンジですね。

NISでの経験は、現在のキャリアにどのように役立ちましたか？
NISで身につけた力の中でも、国際的な環境での「人と関わる力」や「コミュニケーション力」は、今の自分にとって大きな支えになっています。

最近の楽みは？
スノーボードです！…と言っても「ゆっくりボード」ですが（笑）。家からスキーリゾートまで徒歩5分で、子どもたちが学校に行っている間に滑れるのが最高です。

名古屋・NISでいちばん恋しいものは？
日本と名古屋の「食べ物」！！！ そして、友人たちや先生方にもとても会いたいです。

今できることには、全力で挑戦してください。「今できるなら、やってみる。」その先に何が待っているかは、誰にも分かりません。 一瞬一瞬を大切に、チャンスを楽しみ、思いきって飛び込んでください！
