Balancing Sports and Academics in Seattle
Taiga, Class of 2020, is currently enjoying his time at the University of Washington in Seattle, balancing studies with soccer, much as he did while at NIS!
Where are you now?
I am currently a college student studying in the United States of America. I go to the University of Washington in Seattle.
What are you studying? Do you have a major?
I do not have a major yet and I will be declaring one at the end of my second year or beginning of my third year. I am intending to major in Business Administration or Informatics offered at my university.
What has been your most favorite class so far?
I took a class called Sociology of Sports - it was cool to learn the societal and cultural benefits of sports from an intramural/recreation perspective all the way to a professional setting.
What has been your least favorite class so far?
So far I haven't taken any classes yet that makes me want to sleep through it!
What part of university life do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy meeting people in and out of class. I appreciate that my classes have been offered in-person starting from this fall.
Outside of your studies, what is one thing you are excited about or interested in these days?
I tried bouldering and I really enjoyed it. I am excited to do that more whenever I can!
What is the one thing you miss about Japan or Nagoya?
I miss the super easy and on-time transportation using trains and buses.
What's the most significant difference between where you are now and NIS?
The place I go to now is definitely larger and bigger than NIS in terms of campus size, number of students, teachers, etc. But that really doesn't change who I am and what I have to do as a student/person to live.
And of course, we need to know, what words of wisdom do you have for your schoolmates still at NIS?
Sleep, eat, exercise, study, enjoy!
