International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a rigorous and globally recognized course of study for students in Grades 11 and 12.

Students engage in a challenging academic program across six subject areas, developing both depth of knowledge and the ability to think critically, analyze complex ideas, and communicate effectively. Courses are designed to go beyond memorization, requiring students to apply their understanding in a range of contexts, including written examinations, research, and independent work.

In addition to subject studies, the IBDP includes core components that further strengthen students’ academic and personal development. Through the Extended Essay, students conduct independent research on a topic of interest. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) challenges students to reflect on how knowledge is constructed and evaluated. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) encourages engagement beyond the classroom through artistic, physical, and service experiences.

The IBDP is widely recognized by universities worldwide and is valued for preparing students for the academic demands of higher education. Students graduate with strong research, time-management, and critical-thinking skills, as well as the independence and resilience needed for success beyond school.

Credit-Based

The Credit-Based Hybrid Pathway provides students with a structured route to the NIS High School Diploma while allowing them to pursue a combination of High School and IB courses throughout Grades 11 and 12.

Students complete a defined program of study that includes required graduation credits, Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and a Senior Project. Through a balance of academic coursework, independent learning, and personal growth opportunities, students develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed for success beyond high school.

This pathway is designed for students whose goals may be best supported through a combination of IB and High School courses while maintaining the rigor, challenge, and high expectations of an NIS education.

Global Competencies

The Global Competencies Pathway is a competency-based route to the NIS High School Diploma designed for students whose strengths, interests, and future goals may be best supported through authentic, interdisciplinary, and highly personalized learning experiences.

Rather than progressing through the accumulation of subject credits, students demonstrate their learning and growth through six core competencies: Inquiry, Literacy & Communication, Numeracy, Creative Problem-Solving, Social Impact, and Personal Responsibility. Learning takes place through a combination of functional learning blocks, interdisciplinary inquiry, seminars, project and portfolio work, and opportunities for self-guided contribution. Students also complete Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) throughout the two-year program.

As students progress through Grades 11 and 12, they build a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their developing competencies and participate in Reviews to reflect on their progress and identify next steps. In Grade 12, students bring their learning together through the completion of a Capstone Portfolio, with opportunities for an internship or mentor-supported project where appropriate. The pathway culminates in a Final Gateway Review and a Viva Voce or Final Exhibition, where students present and reflect on their learning and growth.

This two-year, full-time pathway maintains the high expectations of an NIS education while providing greater flexibility in how students demonstrate their learning. By graduation, students leave with the NIS High School Diploma and a rich body of evidence demonstrating their competencies, experiences, and readiness for further study, work, and life beyond school.
