Transforming our Community Through Learning

Today - and later tonight - the Gr. 5 students turned our campus into a powerful center of learning and community impact through their "PYP Exhibition".

Learning only starts to transfer from the level of ‘knowing’ to the level of ‘understanding’ when it is put into a real context. The brain strives to make meaning of all the information that comes into it - and by connecting and applying that information within a context that is real and relevant to the learner, students actually begin to learn at a deeper level, coming to see their world with a depth of understanding that cannot happen at the level of ‘knowledge’ alone. The PYP helps students not only master content and develop knowledge but also supports their development as global citizens and independent thinkers through their focus on impact, inquiry, transferable skills, concepts, and learner dispositions.

And the PYP Exhibition helps students do just that. The campus today was transformed as students talked with students across grades, and others who were able to go through the exhibition zones. Parents and teachers should be so proud of the accomplishments of these students, and, as a school, we know how fortunate we are to have these incredible young thinkers as a part of our learning journey. The Gr. 5 students are to be congratulated for their efforts to create such a wonderful showcase for their learning - and their impact.

I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy time together during "Golden Week", and look forward to seeing everyone back on campus on Monday, May 6!
