NIS Inclusion and Belonging Framework

Vision:

Our diverse community collaborates to foster a culture of belonging by taking responsibility for reflective dialogue, practicing empathy, and advocating for a just and equitable society.


Systems and Structures

Goal: Our commitment to inclusion and belonging serves as a foundational design principle for a comprehensive set of school policies, processes, structures, and practices that advance our vision.

Priority Action Areas:

  • Language strategy to support all community members
  • Communication in support of all community members
  • Academic inclusion for all
  • Emotional safety for all students inclusive of LGBTQIA+ students and others who face challenges in attaining safety and belonging
  • Professional standards and related professional growth pathways for all staff

 

Teaching and Learning

Goal: Our teaching and learning is underpinned by diverse perspectives and learning identities, advancement of a fair society, a commitment to anti-discrimination, and the cultivation of belonging.

Priority Action Areas:

  • Intercultural Competencies rollout
  • Authenticity and representation in learning resources suitable for all students
  • Equity of access to learning resources
  • Inclusive and adaptive physical environment

 

Community Engagement

Goal: All constituent groups of the school community (students, staff, families, and alumni) are empowered to further our vision through multiple entry points and modes of engagement.

Priority Action Areas:

  • Community events
  • Media content, channels, and accessibility (calendar, newsletter, social media, website, etc)
  • Specific strategies to address experiences of marginalization and ensure belonging for all
  • Targeted capacity-building for all constituent groups
