Roots & Shoots Club Installs Bat House

The Middle School "Roots & Shoots" club is proud to announce that NIS now has a bat box! You may have noticed that there are many small bats flying around at dusk in Nakashidami, particularly in the warmer months. These are likely to be the Japanese House Bat (Abura-koumori, Pipistrellus abramus). Each bat eats hundreds of insects every night. By fixing the bat box that we made high up on the sunny side behind the Field House, we hope to provide them with a dry, warm place to roost. The Roots & Shoots Club works to foster respect and compassion for humans, other animals and all organisms through our projects.
