Gr. 11 DP and HSC Theatre students were working on one of their official assessments for their course on Thursday. The Research Presentation requires students to undertake independent research on a chosen world theatre tradition and then film a 15 minute presentation to be submitted to the IB. They are required to demonstrate understanding of the historical and cultural context and background of the tradition and explain how they have practically explored a chosen performance convention which is unique to that tradition as well as explaining what they have learned about theatre in a world wide context. This year students have chosen to examine traditions from all over the globe, such as British Pantomime, Kathakali from India, Turkish shadow puppetry called Karagöz and Japanese traditions such as Kabuki and Rakugo, as well as many more.
