Gr. 10 is on the case!

Gr. 10 students started their Science and Drama Interdisciplinary Unit this week. On Monday they launched the unit and students began to familiarize themselves with the case of who killed Mrs. Shears' dog, Wellington, through the group reading of the play "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Simon Stephens. Through exploring and investigating skills in both Drama and Science, students will examine how experts are able to convince a jury in a court trial. They will examine the work of criminal investigators and forensics, focusing on DNA and genetics as well as examining evidence. They will also use drama skills to explore how lawyers use persuasive language and confident speech to convince judges and juries that someone is guilty or innocent. The unit will culminate in a live court trial where students will use the skills they have gained over the next few weeks and will present their evidence in front of a jury and try and convict or exonerate Ed Boone from killing Wellington the dog! This is the first time we have done something like this at NIS and we cannot wait!
