College Info Session

NIS held its first College Information Session for Gr. 12 students and parents on Tuesday evening. Mr. Moody and Ms. Hayashida opened up the event with a general overview of the event and then broke into parallel sessions with Mr. Moody addressing the process for overseas universities, while Ms. Hayashida presented on the application journey for universities inside Japan. Key takeaways from the evening for both the parents and the students were that each country and each institution are different with different requirements for the application process and different opportunities for scholarships. Even within universities, various programs can also have varying requirements. Knowing the timing and deadlines is extremely important, especially as students will need assistance from teachers for letters of recommendation.

Mr. Moody and Ms. Hayashida laid out several scenarios but reminded both the students and parents that their due diligence in doing the research will be a vital factor in the success of their college selection process. Most of all, they emphasized their willingness and ability to guide students (and parents!) along the way and encouraged them to reach out with any questions or concerns. It will be a busy year for Gr 12 students as they start to set out on their journeys onto future pathways, and we wish them all the best as they find the right fit for them!
