Gr. 3 students are exploring the concept of how an economy functions for their UOI: How We Organize Ourselves. They first started learning about the concept of supply and demand and how it affects the prices of goods and services. This year, with an end goal of creating their own market, they had an idea that solves several different problems. They decided to sell the old books they have in the class library and replace them with new ones to update each classroom library in Primary. First, they sorted the books, brainstormed the information and conducted market research by collecting data from students in the other grades using a google form. Of course they had to ‘know their market’ in order to resupply the classroom libraries with the books that were interesting to each class. Now, they are working on their persuasive writing to effectively advertise their products (=books). We are looking forward to their Market Day in two weeks when many of the used books are sold and they get to reorganize their classroom libraries!
