The Elementary hallway was busy today with shops full of great student-made products and customers! Within their "How we organize Ourselves" unit, the Gr 3 students explored economic activity and endeavored to create their own companies. They started by researching possible products they could create, then took a few ideas and did some market research to see which possible products were popular with different demographics within the school. Once they had their market data, they organized it into a presentable form and created companies which took the data and analyzed which products had proven themselves popular. Students then worked to make a prototype of their chosen product or products; once a prototype was built groups worked to determine the cost of one unit.  With the costs of each unit determined, groups worked to make a price for their product and then to mass produce their product. Students worked to make enough of their product to create a profit margin on market day. After market day students will determine where the funds raised will to go by looking at various organizations which give back to either the local or global community. The students learned a tremendous amount about business plans, supply and demand and how a real world marketplace operates!
