ELC-K Golf Course!
The ELC Kindergarten students are designing a golf course! In their unit “How the World Works”, they have been inquiring into the scientific concept of using pushes and pulls to put objects in motion, increasing or decreasing the object’s speed, change direction, or stop motion. To show their growing understanding of how pushes and pulls affect movement in physical activities, kindergarteners paired up to work on designing a miniature golf course layout. In addition to observing and thinking like scientists and engineers, they also learned how to keep a good science journal to record what they see, hear, feel and think. The Kindergarteners are using an Engineering Design Process to find a solution to the engineering problem they were presented with. In creating their miniature golf holes, children will interpret the data they have gathered about the effects of different forces on the motion of objects. They are in the process of imagining a solution, drawing their plans, creating, experimenting and improving their golf holes. The final designs will be put together and the ELC will have a seven-hall miniature golf course! We look forward to seeing the completed course layout!
