ICC+ELC = Perfect Match!

After a year of navigating COVID and having their club activities thwarted by restrictions around gathering, the International Childcare Club (ICC) at NIS pivoted and came up with the perfect solution. Typically the club would trek down the road to the neighborhood Shidami Kindergarten to engage the children in activities and outdoor play every Wednesday afternoon. Naturally, during COVID restrictions were put into place to protect the students on both sides. To put their creativity and service-minded leadership skills to use, the club has decided to devote Tuesday break-time with the ELC students. This new activity has just started and the club members are learning how to best interact with the young learners. No doubt it is providing a meaningful connection between some of the youngest and oldest members of the NIS student body - a connection that surely benefits both. Indeed, the leaders of the club commented on how playing with the children is a great way to destress within the demands of the DP curriculum. It is a win-win solution! The ELC students have new high school buddies to play with and the older students are putting their leadership, service, and action skills into use to benefit their own community. Soon they hope to be able to return to Shidami Kindergarten but will also consider continuing on with their new role, too! The ICC and the ELC are a perfect match, after all!
