Earth Day at NIS

This year, two students in Gr. 11 led the charge for the Earth Day 2021 actions at NIS. Along with the environment rally that they led and the entire school community participated in, one of the action goals was to reduce electricity usage. They asked the whole NIS community to minimize electricity use where they could on the day. Leading up to Earth Day, the average daily consumption for April on school days was 1,794 kWh. On Earth Day, our consumption was 1,560 kWh, a 13% reduction which is quite an achievement but still well short of the 35% goal. Earth Day organizers would again like to thank the school community for their commitment on Thursday. A 13% reduction in greenhouse gases released and money saved is still an outstanding achievement! Let's continue to work together to reduce our footprint and provide a better climate future for all. The solutions are clear. We just need the commitment and actions to get it done!
