Japanese Culture Week
NIS celebrated Japanese Culture Week across various grade levels this week! Student works such as Haiku poems, culture trivia, Origami artworks, and Japanese idioms were displayed in the Wing Building Hallway. In addition, students learned about Tanabata, the Star Festival, and wrote their wishes on a small piece of paper and hung it on a bamboo stalk. On Wednesday and Thursday, with the help of some Secondary Japanese students, students from Gr. 5 to Gr. 10 enjoyed a fun atmosphere of Japanese summer festivals with some games. During this time, they were introduced to the board game "Othello," which many people might not realize originated in Japan! Thank you, students and teachers, for organizing and making the week successful in COVID safe way!
