Celebrating Together

Today, the school hosted a joint celebration celebrating the two cultural and religious observances of Ramadan and Shabbat. The event was conceived and planned jointly by several NIS families and staff to introduce the community to the ways these two holidays are celebrated. Ramadan is a holy month of fasting observed by Muslims every year. Shabbat is a day of rest observed by Jewish people every week. During the celebration after school, the participants enjoyed challah (egg bread), listened to music, created some holiday-related crafts, and put on henna. Then some of the students gave a short cultural presentation, before enjoying dinner together. By sharing cultural practices, we can learn and appreciate the many people who make up our international community!
