Nagoya International School is a not-for-profit institution guided by a clear focus on long-term sustainability, educational quality, and the success of every student.

NIS operates as an educational foundation (gakko hojin) under Japanese law, in accordance with regulations set by the Aichi Prefecture Board of Education and the Ministry of Education. The school is governed by a Board of Directors, supported by a Board of Trustees, with defined roles that ensure accountability, strong oversight, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Members of both the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees serve three-year terms and hold volunteer positions, reflecting a strong commitment to the school’s mission. The Board of Directors typically consists of 5–11 members, supported by Inspector Auditors, while the Board of Trustees includes a broader group of advisors representing the NIS community.
