Last Thursday, the High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Fukuoka International School for the Western Japan Athletics Association (WJAA) Mid-Season Volleyball Tournament. Coaches, players, and parents from several international schools across Japan eagerly attended the two-day tournament since this was the first time since 2019 that many of the teams were able to compete against each other in a full tournament.
NIS was very well represented by the Varsity team both on and off the court. All of the games played typically went to three sets as the girls were quite a match to teams from Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Hiroshima. Though the team didn't officially place in the tournament, the NIS Dolphins received the “Team Spirit Award” in recognition for their conduct during games, conduct when not playing games, for following COVID protocols and cleanliness, plus having general approachability and a good attitude. Many of the schools in attendance had wonderful things to say about the Dolphin coaches and players!
With the tournament at FIS complete, the Varsity Girls have already started preparations for the final tournament of the season which will be held in Kobe October 14-15. Go Dolphins!
