Appreciating Non-use (and Use!) of Tech on Low-Tech Day!

To explore how it feels to reduce our reliance on technology, NIS had a "Low-Tech Day" on Monday, a day to encourage staff, students and families to try and unplug from our devices and experience connecting with the world in a different way. Students were told not to bring in their devices and school technology was not available for them to use. One math class tackled geometrical calculations in the old-school way using pen-and paper and in Gr 9 Design, students learned traditional Japanese wood working techniques for joining pieces of wood without using nails. The day made everyone appreciate life without technology, and of course the privilege we have to be able to access technology!
