A School Designed for the Future
NIS prepares students for a future that is changing, connected, and full of possibilities.
NIS is a learning community built around a clear purpose: to help students grow into thoughtful, capable, and confident individuals who are ready to shape the world around them.
Founded in 1964, NIS offers a not-for-profit, English-language international education in Nagoya to a diverse group of families from a wide range of cultures and nationalities, yet we are united in our desire to embrace the skills, behaviours, and values that will enable our students to navigate and contribute to their world.
In our learning community, students are challenged to think critically, engage with curiosity, and take ownership of their learning. Guided by the International Baccalaureate (IB) and supported by internationally experienced educators, learning at NIS is designed to be meaningful and relevant to the world in which students are growing up.
NIS is an inclusive school, and we enroll students with diverse gifts, talents and dreams who both benefit from the programs we offer and have the opportunity to achieve the objectives of our mission. Here, children are known, supported, and encouraged to develop their individual strengths while building the skills that matter most for the future. This foundation prepares them for success in universities around the world, including in Japan, and for the opportunities that follow.

Through challenging academics, meaningful experiences, and a supportive community, our graduates leave NIS prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Our Campus

At NIS, learning is more than acquiring information. It is an active, ongoing process where students develop knowledge, build skills, explore ideas, and grow as individuals. We design learning experiences that go beyond memorization, helping students develop deep understanding, think critically, and apply what they learn in meaningful ways.
This approach extends beyond the classroom. Through academics, activities, and community experiences, students build the confidence, curiosity, and capabilities they need to thrive.
Early Learning Center
The ELC Building features Regio-inspired spaces for Preschool and Kindergarten, including a sensory room and outdoor play area.
Raymond Building
The Raymond Building features the Academic Office and Reception, Secondary and Elementary classrooms, library and Commons cafeteria.
Wing Building
The Wing Building features the gymnasium, training room and drama classroom on the upper floor, Elementary Music and Art classrooms, the iSpace and Japanese language classrooms on the ground floor.
East Building
The East Building features a performance hall, cafeteria, and spaces for Secondary science, music, art and mathematics.
Our Community
The importance of Partnerships
At NIS, we understand that our goals as a community are achieved only when we partner with our wider community. Our community is also what sets NIS apart — a solid core of educators, families, friends and businesses continually working together toward a common goal.
In addition to teachers and staff, NIS parents play an important role in making our community as supportive and nurturing as possible. Parents not only support students in the classroom through FSA-related activities and events, but also by providing diverse windows into cultures and communities that the school otherwise would not have access to.
By participating and involving our greater community, students at NIS are able to learn and grow in an environment that allows them to mature and develop while understanding their roles – and their responsibilities – in the world we share.
